This
album rocks in an old school kind of way; it’s
proper rock and roll as it used to be. Very melodic
from the outset and with plenty of good old catchy
tunes, As Nature Intended is a lesson in how to
make people whistle the same riff all day. The album
is suitably varied, at times things are a bit reggae,
at others they are more like Weezer, there’s
elements of Bruce Springsteen slipped in with what
sounds like The Red Hot Chilli Peppers; this album
is hard to pin down. Its influences are wide but
at the same time perhaps a little too obvious, which
is a shame. Stand out track “Rabbit Soup”
twists and turns all over the place, moving from
pure rock to immensely satisfying, quiet harmonies.
Musically the album is rather simple, a good guitar
riff leads the way over pumping drums and steady
bass, this is not a criticism, simplicity is a good
thing. At times Raised by Animals are sublime at
others a tad contrived, however As Nature Intended
is well worth a listen. (JG) Sandman
