First
impressions - very tidy, very professional! Lasting
impressions - great outfit with a superb album to
offer the record buying public. A work done to an
absolute turn; nothing overcooked - nothing left
raw or untidy. Inoffensive, but with just enough
'balls' to hit the spot. Superb, clever stuff!!
'As Nature Intended' by Raised By Animals is a superbly
constructed piece of modern music. Light rock in
feel and with just a hint of 'urban' country here
and there. The first word that came to mind as this
album commenced was 'friendly'. Now, I don't mean
that this work is in anyway 'safe' or 'middle of
the road'. No, this is 'friendly in the same way
that The Red Hot Chili Peppers works are friendly;
classy, songs performed with accomplished style
and a workmanlike approach.
The ten tracks here offer the listener a degree
of variation that's rare nowadays. These guys are
wonderfully easy to listen to but unlike many outfits
there's a finesse about what they do and how they
do it. With the right sort of exposure and promotion
I could well see this album doing very well indeed.
Raised By Animals reminds me also of a modern day
Grateful Dead. Their whole take on things feels
relaxed and effortless but solid and inventive.
They certainly have a distinctive sound and a pretty
unique style. And, nothing has been left to chance
here; the whole thing is superbly put together -
well packaged and presented - superbly crafted songs
performed majestically - produced to just the right
degree - it all adds up to a stunning release that
I'll be happy to spend a lot of time listening to.
'As Nature Intended' is an fine album to be cherished
and enjoyed. Raised By Animals should be proud of
what they've done here. Look out for this - it's
well worth a listen - you won't be disappointed!
(Rhythm & Booze rating 9/10).
